Patna : World No 5 Dominic Thiem, 26, Austria, upset six-time champion and World No 3 Roger Federer, 38, Switzerland, in Group Bjorn Borg in the Nitto ATP Finals at O2 Arena, London, UK, on late November 10, 2019, night. Thiem beat Federer in straight sets 7-5, 7-5 in 1hr 40 minutes.

Thiem will next face World No 2 and 2nd seed Novak Djokovic, 32, Serbia, who defeated World No 8 Matteo Berrettini, 23, Italy, 6-2, 6-1 in the first match in Bjorn Borg Group the same day. Eight top players divided into two group a

Fifth seed Thiem, who has won 5 ATP titles in 2019, won 3 break points in the match to 1 by Federer. Both the players won 3 games each in a row in the match. The Austrian, however, won 52 service points to 43 by Federer. The Swiss fired 5 Aces in the match to 1 by the Austrian.

Eight top players split into two groups are participating in the tournament played in round robin format. Each player plays three match in Group Stage.

Thiem now leads Federer 5-2 Head to Head. The Austrian has defeated Federer three times in 2019 including ATP Masters 1,000 Indian Wells, USA.

Top seed Rafael Nadal, 33, Spain,  will play 7th seed and defending champion Alexander Zverev, 22, Germany, in his first match in Group Andre Agassi.
