Patna : Third seed and US Open Champion Dominic Thiem, 27, Austria, and 12th seed Diego Schwartzman, 28, Argentina, entered the QFs of French Open, a Grand Slam tennis tournament, in contrasting style on October 4, 2020, late night.

Thiem, who had reached French Open Final both in 2018 and 2019, edged past World No 239 Hugo Gaston, 20, France, in a five-set marathon 6-4, 6-4, 5-7, 3-6, 6-3 in 4th round at Roland Garros, Paris, France, on October 4 late night. The Austrian, who had also reached Australian Open final in 2020, won 4 break points in the match to 3 by Gaston. Both the players won 3 games each in a row.

Thiem, in all, won 158 points in the match to 147 by the Frenchman. Thiem fired 7 Aces in the match to just 1 by Gaston, who had defeated 2015 French Open champion and 16th seed Stan Wawrinka, Switzerland, in 3rd round. Thiem has won 17 career titles.

Schwartzman, on the other hand, beat Lorenzo Sonego, 25, Italy, in straight sets 6-1, 6-3, 6-4 in 4th round to set up a QFs meeting with Dominic Thiem. Schwartzman won 8 break points to 3 by the Italian. The Argentinian, in all,  won 92 points to 63 by the Italian. He won 8 games in a row in the match to 2 by Lorenzo. Schwartzman committed 3 double faults to 4 by the Italian. Both the players served 1 Ace each.
