Patna : World No 8 Dominic Thiem, 24, Austria, entered the semi-finals of French Open 2018 for the third time defeating the much fancied World No 3 Alexander Zverev, 21, Germany, in straight sets causing a major upset in the quarter-finals on June 5, 2018. Thiem beat Zverev 6-4, 6-2, 6-1 on Philippe Chatrier Court, Roland Garros, Paris.
Zverev, who had won in five setters in second, third and fourth rounds, was completely off colour on June 5. Zverev committed 4 double faults to Thiem’s three. Thiem also fired 5 Aces compared to two by Zverev.
Thiem’s win percentage on first serve was 71 % while it was 81 % on second serve. Zverev’s win percentage on first serve was 53 % and 52 % on second serve. Thiem won 6 break points compared to none by Zverev, who had last month won the Madrid Masters title.
