Thiem, Tsitsipas advance to 3rd round of ATP Barcelona Open

Patna : World No 5 Dominic Thiem, 25, Austria,  and World No 8 Stefanos Tsitsipas, 20, Greece, advanced to the 3rd round of ATP Barcelona Open at Barcelona, Spain, on April 23, 2019, late night.

Third seed Thiem beat World No 25 Diego Schwartzman, 26, Argentina, 6-3, 6-3 in the 2nd round. Thiem’s winning percentage both on his first and second serve (58% & 45 %) was higher than that of Schwartzman( 53% & 43%). Thiem broke Schwartzman’s service 6 times in the match while the latter broke his service thrice. Both the players won 3 games each in a row in the match. Schwartzman committed 7 double faults in the match. Thiem will play Jaume Munar, Spain, in the Round of 16 on April 25, 2019.

Fifth seed Tsitsipas beat World No 36 Marton Fucsovics, 27, Hungary, 6-3, 6-4 in the 2nd round. Tsitsipas’ winning percentage on both his first and second serve ( 79% & 59%) was higher than that of Fucsovics ( 74% & 47 %). Tsitsipas broke Fucsovics’ servive 4 times while the latter broke his service twice. Fucsovics committed 5 double faults to 3 by Tsitsipas, who fired 2 Aces too. Tsitsipas won three games in a row to 2 by Fucsovics.

But, World No 22 David Goffin, 28, Belgium, lost to World No 51 Jan-Lenard Struff, 28, Germany, in the 2nd round. Struff beat Goffin 7-6, 6-3 to advance to the 3rd round. Struff won 3 break points in the match to 2 by Goffin. Goffin fired 5 Aces in the match to 6 by Struff. He will face Tsitsipas in the Round of 16 on April 25.

World No 28 Guido Pella, 28, Argentina, advanced to the 2nd round of the tournament beating World No 50 Joao Sousa, 30, Portugal, 3-6, 7-6, 6-2 in the first round. Pella fired 7 Aces in the match to 8 by Sousa.
