Patna: Former union minister and Rajya Sabha member C P Thakur on Thursday sat on day long dharna at Sanjay Gandhi Botanical Garden protesting against restrictions imposed on morning walkers in the Zoo.

Thakur was joined by many lawyers, retired bureaucrats, social workers, BJP MLA from Bankipore Nitin Navin, BJP leader Arijit Saswat Chaubey at dharna. He said the restrictions on morning walkers and demand of fees from them was an attack on their natural right. Since the establishment of the Zoo, no restriction was put on the morning walkers who too were concerned with the welfare of the wildlives in the zoo and avoided moving in their areas.
Thakur said he would meet the Governor and chief minister soon to seek withdrawal of the orders of the zoo authorities. Sanjay Gandhi Botanical garden was part of the Raj Bhawan premises till seventies and constructed when Devakant Baruah was the Governor.
Meanwhile, Zoo director Chandra Shekhar said action would be taken against Thakur and his supporters.
