Sitamarhi : Tension prevails at Jankinagar, Lalbandi and Sahorwa villages under Sonbarsa police station in Sitamarhi District in North Bihar bordering Nepal after firing by Nepal Sashasatra Prahari Bal on June 12, 2020, in which an Indian migrant worker Vikesh Rai lost his life while two other villagers sustained injuries.

Nepal Prahari Bal had also held one Ram Lagan Rai, a resident of village Jankinagar, as captive.  After prolonged local and diplomatic efforts he was released on June 13, 2020, morning. His bore injury marks.
The deceased’s co-villagers and relatives staged dharna with the body near the place of occurrence in Sitamarhi on June 12, 2020, night, raising slogans against Nepal police. When Nepal police DIG Raj Aaryal said sorry about the firing, the villagers left for cremation ground  with the body in the wee hours on June 13. Sitamarhi SP Anil Kumar led the India side along with senior SSB officials.
Meanwhile, Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee delegates Md. Afaq Khan and Pramod Kumar Neel severely condemned firing by Nepal police on Indian civilians and demanded adequate compensation to the deceased, who used to work in Ludhiana, Punjab, and had returned to his village Lalbandi recently in the wake of COVID-19.
