Nawada: Tension flared up in Nawada town’s Gondapur locality beside NH 31 on March 30, 2018, morning when unidentified miscreants toppled the statue of Lord Hanuman from
its pedestal. To preempt being exposed in the act of vandalism, the miscreants not only roughed up local mediapersons but also smashed their cameras and a motorcycle. They also broke the windscreen of a truck and blocked the NH for a few hours.

Police opened fire in the air to disperse the miscreants. Nawada DM Kaushal Kumar claimed that the situation was under control. When asked if any miscreant was arrested, the DM said that he would look into that aspect later.
The miscreants pulled down the mid-size statue of Lord Hanuman from its pedestal in Gondapur locality and when local mediapersons reached spot, they pushed them around and smashed their cameras. A scribe Raj Kumar from a local tabloid ‘ Magadh
ki Pukar ’ was roughed up and his bike damaged.
Incidentally, Gondapur is infamous 2013 riots in which two persons had lost their lives and an unprecedented four-day curfew had to be clamped in the locality. Then a local roadside dhaba “Baba ka Dhaba” was vandalised by miscreants who had insisted to be served non-vegetarian food despite it being the month of Saavan.  The then DM Adesh Titarmare (present Bhagalpur DM) was transferred in the wake of the incident as he had refused to let go several rioters as demanded by a local former JD (U) MLA.
