Ara : A teenage girl was gangraped at a village under Chauri police station (PS) in Bhojpur District in South Bihar on January 18, 2021. Bhojpur SP Har Kisbore Rai has an ordered an inquiry into the incident. The SP has also ordered for the arrest of the four accused at the earliest after the survivor lodged a complaint with him.

The survivor, in her petition to the Bhojpur SP, said that her parents had gone to their relatives and she and her sister were all alone at home when four youth of the village entered the house around 9 pm on January 18, 2021, and gangraped her. On getting information, her parents returned home but the accused made the girl and her parents captive and also thrashed them offering them money to keep their mouth shut. The accused released them on January 25, 2021, after which they went to the Chauri PS but the police officials there refused to lodge an FIR.

On the other hand,  the SHO, Chauri PS, refuted the charges and said that neither such case was reported nor an application was submitted in this regard by the survior and her parents. He said that police would start investigation after lodging an FIR if they give an application.

The matter was reportedly being hushed up at panchayat level. At the panchayat, the accused admitted their crime and agreed to give Rs 3.72 lakh to the family of the girl by January 25, 2021. An agreement was prepared in this regard on January 23, 2021, and eight persons had signed on the agreement paper. It was also decided that the survivor and her family would be free to take action if the accused fail to give the amount by January 25, 2021.

Meanwhile, Bhojpur SP Har Kishore Rai took the complaint of the girl very seriously and ordered action in the case after lodging an FIR.
