Patna : World No 41 & 7th seed Albert Ramos-Vinolas, 32, Spain, tumbled out of Rio Open, an ATP World Tour 500 outdoor clay courts event at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, suffering a shock defeat at the hand of World No 406 Carlos Alcaraz Garfia, 16, Spain, a Wild Card entry, on February 18, 2020.

Carlos Alcaraz Garfia, who is making his debut at an ATP event, stunned Vinolas in three sets 7-6, 4-6, 7-6 in 3 hr 36 minutes in first round. Vinolas though won 5 break points in the match to 4 by Garfia. Both the players won 5 games each in a row during the match. Vinolas fired 5 Aces in the match to 2 by Garfia. In all, Garfia won 146 points to 145 by Vinolas. Vinolas won 66 receiving points to 59 by Garfia. Wild Card Garfia though won 87 service points to 79 by Vinolas. Garfia will face Federico Coria, Argentina, in 2nd round.

World No 59 Pablo Andujar, 34, Spain, upset World No 49 Fernando Verdasco, 36, Spain, in straight sets 6-3, 6-3 in 1hr 28 minutes in first round. Andujar won 5 break points to 2 by 9th seed Verdasco. Andujar also won 5 games in a row in the match to 3 by Verdasco. He won 72 points to 49 by the 9th seed Verdasco. Andujar won 38 service points to 28 by Verdasco. Andujar will face Pedro Martinez Portero, Spain, in 2nd round.

World No 86 Federico Delbonis, 29, Argentina, beat World No 93 Roberto Carballes Baena, 26, Spain, 6-2, 6-4 to enter the 2nd round. Both the players served 3 Aces each in the match. The Argentinian won 5 break points to 2 by Baena. Delbonis won 10 games in a row to 4 by the Spaniard. He won 75 points in the match to 57 by Baena.
