Patna : World Number 1 and top seed Tai Tzu Ying, 23, Chinese Taipei, successfully defended her All England Open Badminton women’s single by beating World Number 2 Akane Yamaguchi, 20, Japan, 22-20, 21-13, in 45 minutes hitting powerful smashes at Birmingham, UK, on March 18, 2018, night. Yamaguchi put up stiff resistence in the first set but Tai Tzu Ying completely dominated the second set.
Born at Kaohsiung, Taiwan, Tai Tzy Ying had won the All England Open singles title in 2017 beating Ratchanok Intanon, Thailand, in the final. Intanon is ranked 5th in the world. Tai is known for her aggressive play. Her fastest smash was recorded at 360 km/h in 2016 at All England Open.
