Patna : Tai Tzu Ying, 24, Taiwan, remains World No 1 in the Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings released on December 20, 2018, with 1,00,257 points from 16 tournaments but Nozomi Okuhara, 23, Japan, the 2017 world champion, has replaced Akane Yamaguchi, 21, Japan, as the World No 2 with 85,907 points from 19 tournaments.
P V Sindhu, 23, India, has jumped three places to be ranked World No 3 with 84,264 points from 17 tournaments after winning the BWF World Tour Finals 2018 singles title defeating Okuhara.
Chen Yufei, 20, China, has slipped one place and is World No 4 with 83,529 points from 18 tournaments while Akane Yamaguchi has slipped three places to be ranked World No 5 with 82,813 points from 18 tournaments. Reigning Olympic and world champion Carolina Marina, 25, Spain, has slipped two places and is World No 6 with82,426 points from 14 tournaments. HE Bingjiao, China, and Ratchanok Intanon, Thailand, remains World No 7 and World 8 respectively.
Saina Nehwal, 28, India, also remains static at World No 9 with 64,914 points from 15 tournaments. Beiwen Zhang, USA, has jumped 2 places and is ranked World No 10 with 60,190 points from 16 events. Rituparna Das, 22, India, has slipped three places to be ranked World No 53 with 27,870 points from 10 events. Vaishnavi Reddy Jakka, 16, India, has slipped one place and is World No 62 with 25,765 points.
