Patna : World No 1 Tai Tzu Ying, 26, Taiwan, World No 6 Carolina Marin, 27, Spain, World No 9 A N Se Young, 18, South Korea, and World No 13 Pornpawee  Chochuwong, 23, Thailand, reached the women’s singles semi-finals of HSBC BWF World Tours Final at Bangkok, Ghailand, on January 29, 2021. Tai Tzu Ying will  face A N Se Young while Carolina Marin will face Pornpawee Chochuwong in SFs on January 30, 2021.

Tai Tzu defeated World No 5 and 2013 World Champion Ratchanok Intanon, 25, Thailand, in three games 23-25, 21-12, 21-9 in 57 minutes in her third Group Stage match on January 29, 2021. The two players are now locked 15-15 Head to Head. Tai Tzu finished the Group Stage with two wins and one defeat. She had lost to Chochuwong in straight games in her 2nd Group Stage match on Janjary 28, 2021.

Carolina, who had won her first two Group Stage match, suffered a shock defeat at the hand of Young in her third match. Young stunned  Carolina, who had recently won Yonex Thailand Open and Toyota Thailand Open titles, 21-16, 14-21, 21-19 in 55 minutes. Carolina, however, leads Young 4-2 Head to Head. Carolina also finished the Group Stage with two wins and one loss.

Chochuwong, who had defeated Ratchanok Intanon and Ti Tzu Ying in her first two matches, lost to 2019 World Champion P V Sindhu, India, 18-21, 15-21 in her third match. Sindhu finished with two defeats and one win.

World No 25 Evgeniya Kosetskaya, Russia, beat World No 10 Mitchelle Li, Canada, 25-23, 21-10 in 34 minutes in her third Group Stage match. Evgeniya had suffered defeat in her first two Group Stage matches. She had lost her first match to Carolina and second to Young.
