Patna : Top seed and World No 1 Tai Tzu Ying, 26, Taiwan, and 5th seed Carolina Marin, 27, Spain, will clash in the finals of Toyota Thailland Open, an HSBC BWF World Tour Super 1,000 Badminton tournament, at Bangkok, Thailand, on January 24, 2021. It will be a repeat of Yonex Thailand Open finals on January 17, 2021, where Carolina had emerged victorious.
Tai Tzu Ying beat 4th seed and 2013 World Champion Ratchanok Intanon, 25, Thailand, in a three-game thriller 12-21, 21-12, 23-21 in 59 minutes rallying back after losing the first game in the second semi-finals to enter the finals. Tai Tzu won 56 rallies in the match to 54 by Intanon. She won 9 consecutive points during the match to 5 by the Thai. Intanon, however, still leads Tai Tzu 15-14 Head to Head.
Earlier, reigning Olympic Champion Carolina Marin had defeated 7th seed A N Se Young, 18, South Korea, in straight games 21-19, 21-15 in first semi-final to sail into the finals.
