Patna : Reigning French Open champion & 15th seed Iga Swiatek, 19, Poland, demolished 9th seed Karolina Pliskova, 29, Czech Republic,  6-0, 6-0 in just 46 minutes in final to win the women’s singles title at Italian Open, a WTA Masters 1,000 clay court event, at Rome, Italy, on May 16, 2021, evening. Swiatek not only crushed Karolina, the 2016 US Open finalist,  but also handed her over a humiliating double bagel in the match. It was World No 15 Swiatek’s third WTA title.

Swiatek won 6 break points and 12 games in a row during the match. Karolina, the 2019 Australian Open semi-finalist, and 2017 French Open semi-finalist, committed 6 double faults in the match. The Pole, in all, won 51 points during the match to just 13 by World No 9 Karolina, the winner of 16 career titles. Both the players served 1 Ace each in the match. Swiatek’s winning percentage on her first and second serve was 93% and 85% respectively. Swiatek bagged 1,000 WTA Rankings Points for winning the title while Karolina got 600 Rankings points.
