Patna : World No 98 in WTA rankings Yulia Putintseva, 23, Kazakhstan, entered the quarter-finals of French Open 2018 defeating World No 26 Barbora Strycova, 32, Czech Republic, in the Round of 16 6-4, 6-3, on Suzanne Leglen court, Roland Garros, Paris, on June 3, 2018. Putintseva won 5 break poits while Barbora won only 2. Barbora also committed two double faults.

Putintseva had also reached QF of French Open in 2016. Barbora had reached Wimbledon QF in 2016 besides reaching 4th round of Australian Open in 2016, 2018, and 2018.

Reigning US Open champion and World No 10 in WTA rankings Sloane Stephens, 25, USA, defeated World No 24 Anett Kontaveit, 22, Estonia, 6-2, 6-0, in the Round of 16 on Philippe Chatrier court, Roland Garros, Paris, to enter the QF of French Open for the first time. Kontaveit committed 4 double faults in the match. Stephens won 5 break points in the match.

US Open finalist in 2017 and  World No 13 Madison Keys, 23, USA, defeated World No 33 Mihaela Buzarnescu, 30, Romania, 6-1, 6-4, in the Round of 16 to enter the QF of French Open for the first time. Buzarnescu, a PhD in Sports science, committed 5 double faults in the match compared to none by Keys. Keys fired 4 Aces compared to none by Buzarnescu.
