Stephens, Kerber, Sabalenka, crash out of China Open in 2nd round

Patna : World No 12 and 2017 US Open Champion Sloane Stephens, 26, USA, World No 13 Angelique Kerber, 31, Germany, the winner of three Grand Slam singles titles, and World No 14 Aryna Sabalenka, 21, Belarus, crashed out of China Open, a WTA Premier event, at Beijing, China, losing their respective 2nd round matches on October 1, 2019.

But World No 1Ashleigh Barty, 23, Australia, World No 4 Naomi Osaka, 21, and 2018 Australian Open Champion Caroline Wozniacki, 29, Denmark, advanced to the Round of 16.

World No 39 Saisai Zheng, 25, China, upset Sloane Stephens 6-3, 6-1 in 2nd round. Zheng won 5 break points in the match to 1 by Stephens. Zheng also served 4 Aces in the match . She won 5 games in a row during the match to 2 by the America,

World No 51 Polona Hercog, 28, Slovenia, stunned 10th seed Kerber 6-4, 6-2 in 2nd round winning 3 break points besides winning 3 games in a row. Hercog served 5 Aces in the match to 1 by Kerber, a former Australian Open, US Open, and Wimbledon Champion.

Barty defeated World No 37 Yulia Putintseva, 24, Kazakhstan, 6-4, 6-2 to enter the Round of 16 firing 7 Aces. Barty won 4 break points to 1 by Putintseva. The Australian also won 5 games in a row in the match to 2 by Putintseva.

Osaka, the reigning Australian Open Champion,  swept past World No 82 Andrea Petkovic, 32, Germany, 6-2, 6-0 in early 59 minutes to enter the Round of 16 winning 5 break points besides winning 8 games in a row.

Wozniacki beat World No 90 Christina McHale, 27, USA, 6-2, 6-0 in 83 minutes to enter Round of 16. Wozniacki won 5 break points to 1 by McHale. She also won 7 games in a row in the match to 2 by the American. Both the players served 3 Aces each in the match.

World No 45 Daria Kasatkina, 22, Russia, upset World No 14 Aryna Sabalenka 6-4, 7-6 in the 2nd round. Sabalenka though fired 8 Aces in the match. But, she committed 9 double faults to 5 by Kasatkina. The Russian won 4 break points to 3 by Sabalenka.
