Patna : Sri Lanka (SL) beat Bangladesh by 91 runs in the first ODI at R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo, Sri Lanka, on July 26, 2019, with Kusal Perera scoring 111 in 99 balls hitting 17 fours and a six, Angelo Mathews 48 in 52 balls with 3 fours, and Kusal Mendis (wk) 43 in 49 balls with 4 fours. Captain and opener Dimuth Karunaratne scored 36 in 37 balls with 4 fours while Lahiru Thirimanne scored 25 in 30 balls with 1 four.

Opting to bat after winning the toss, SL scored 314/8 in 50 overs. For Bangladesh, Shafiul Islam took 3/62 in 9 overs while Mustafizur Rahman took 2/75 in 10 overs. Mehidy Hasan, Rubel Hossain, and Soumya Sarkar took one wicket each.

Chasing a target of 315, Bangladesh were all out for 223 in 41-4 overs with Mushfiqur Rahim (wk) scoring 67 in 86 balls hitting 5 fours while Sabbir Rahman made 60 in 56 balls with 7 fours. Opener Tamim Iqbal was out for a duck while his opening partner Soumya Sarkar scored 15. Both Iqbal and Sarkar fell to Lasith Malinga, who finished with 3/38 in 9.4 overs. Nuwan Pradeep took 3/51 in 9 overs while Dhananjaya de Silva took 2/49 in 10 overs. Lahiru Kumara took one wicket. Kusal Perera was declayed Player of the Match.
