Patna : Chasing a target of 301 run, Sri Lanka were 226/7 at stumps on day 4 of the second cricket test against England at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, Pallekele, Sri Lanka, on November 17, 2018, with wicketkeeper Niroshan Dickwella batting on 27 in 30 balls with 3 fours.

Opener Dimuth Karunaratne scored 57 in 96 balls with 4 fours while Angelo Mathews scored 88 in 137 balls with 6 fours. Roshan Silva made 37 in 95 balls with 4 fours. Sri Lanka need 75 runs more with three wickets in hand to win the test and level the three-match series 1-1.

For England, spinner Jack Leach took 4/73 in 23.2 overs while Moeen Ali took 2/65 in 15 overs. Adil Rashid took 1/52.

Earlier, England were all out for 346 in their second innings in the first session of the play on November 17. Wicketkeeper Ben Foakes remained unbeaten on 63 with 4 fours and 2 sixes. Captain Joe Root, who had made 14 in the first innings, scored 124 runs with 10 fours and 2 sixes in the second innings. It was his 15th test ton. Opener Rory Burns, who made 43 in the first innings, scored 59 in the second. England had scored 290 runs in the first innings.

Sri Lanka had scored 336 in their first innings with opener Dimuth Karunaratne scoring 63, Dhananjaya de Silva 59, and Roshen Silva 85.
