Sitamarhi: Squall and Hailstorm wreaked havoc under 10 blocks in Sitamarhi district in North Bihar on March 30, 2018, damaging property and standing crops. Severe damage to wheat, maize, sugarcane, toor, mango, litchi and vegetables crops and plants have been reported from Nanpur, Pupri, Bajpatti, Parihar, Majorganj, Suppi, Sonbarsa, Riga, Bathanaha and Dumra blocks in the district.
Hails weighing upto 250 gm lashed several villages in Maudah Panchayat under Majorganj block damaging several tiled, asbestos and thatched houses. District Agriculture Officer Ram Kishore Rai said that the department will prepare an extensive crop and fruit damage report. After assessment, some compensation could be extended to the farmers. Samyukt Kisan Sangarsh Morcha, Sitamarhi, patron Prof Anand Kishore has demanded immediate compensation and relief to the farmers.
