Saharsa : A ten year old boy of Bhartiya Nagar under Ward Number 26 of Saharsa Nagar Parishad Aftab alias Toti was crushed to death by a State Food Corporation (SFC) truck on Sulindabad – Diwari main road under Sadar police station, Saharsa, on September 25, 2017. The truck was coming from Sulindabad side and crushed the boy who was standing outside his house located on roadside, said Aftab’s kin.
Angry over the death of the boy, the locals blocked Sulindabad – Diwari main road for one hour alleging an SI of Sadar police station let the truck driver escape after the incident for monetary consideration. The locals, however, caught the truck driver after a hot chase and thrashed him. They also made SI Jitendra Pandey captive after a scuffle with him. They alleged that SI Pandey instead of arresting the driver trained his revolver at the protesters to allow the driver escape.The locals also demanded compensation to the next of kin of the deceased.
SHO, Sadar Police Station, reached the spot with force and pacified the mob. Police seized the truck and sent the body to Saharsa Sadar Hospital for post-mortem. The SHO assured the protesers that police would take appropriate action in this connection.
