Spain & Serbia to clash in ATP Cup Final

Patna : Spain and Serbia reached the final of 24-Nation inaugural ATP Cup comfortably winning their respective semi-finals matches at Sydney, Australia, on January 11, 2020. Spain defeated Australia 3-0 while Serbia beat Russia 3-0 in the semi-finals. The two teams will face off in the final on January 12, 2020.

In the Span vs Australia tie, World No 1 Rafael Nadal, 33, beat World No 18 Alex de Minaur, 20, in second singles  in three-sets 4-6, 7-5, 6-1 battling back from one set down. Nadal won 4 break points in the match to 2 by Minaur. Nadal also won 6 games in a row in the match to 2 by the Australian. Minaur fired 6 Aces in the match to 5 by Nadal. Nadal won 58 service points to 47 by the Australian.

World No 10 Roberto Bautista Agut, 31, Spain, crushed World No 29 Nick Kyrgios, 24, Australia, in first singles 6-1, 6-4. Kyrgios though hammered 13 Aces in the match to 4  by Agut. But, Agut won 3 break points to none by Kyrgios. Agut also won 5 games in a row in the match. He won 42 servive points to 30  by Kyrgios.

The pair of Pablu Carreno Busta & Feliciano Lopez, Spain, beat Chris Guccione & John Peers, Australia, 6-2, 6-7, 10-4 to win the double match.

In the Serbia vs Russia tie, World No 2 Novak Djokovic, 32, Serbia, beat World No 5 Daniil Medvedev, 23, Russia, in second singles in three-sets 6-1, 5-7, 6-4. Djokovic won 5 break points in the match to 3 by the Russian. Medvedev though fired 6 Aces in the match to 4 by the Serbian. Both the players committed 5 double faults each. Djokovic also won 6 games in a row in the match to 4 by Medvedev. The Serbian won 69 service points to 60 by the Russian.

World No 34 Dusan Lajovic, 29, Serbia, World No 17 Karen Khachanov, 23, Russia, in first singles in straight sets 7-5, 7-6. Khachanov though fired 9 Aces in the match to just 1 by Lajovic. The Serbian also won a break point besides wining 3 games in a row. Khachanov committed 3 double faults to 1 by Lajovic.

The pair of Nikola Cacic & Viktor Troicki, Serbia, beat Teymuraz Gabashvili & Konstantin  Kravcuk, Russia, 6-4, 7-6 to win the doubles.
