Patna : Twelve wickets fell on the first day of the 3rd cricket test between South and Pakistan at The Wanderers, Johannesburg, South Africa, on January 11, 2019. Opting to bat after winning the toss, South Africa were all out for 262 in 77.4 overs with opener Aiden Markram scoring 90 in 124 balls with 16 fours, Hashim Amla 41 in 98 with 6 fours, Theunis de Bruyn 49 in 82 balls with 9 fours, and Zubayr Hamza 41 in 68 balls with 5 fours and a six.

Stand in captain and opener Dean Elgar was out for 5 while Temba Bavuma scored 8 runs. Wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock made 18 with 2 fours while Vernon Philander was out for 1.

For Pakistan, fast bowlers Mohammad Amir, Mohammad Abbas, and Hasan Ali took two wickets each while bowling all-rounder Faheem Ashraf, 24, a fast medium bowler, took 3/57. Spinner Shadab Khan, a bowling all-rounder, took 1/39.

In reply, Pakistan were 17/2 in 9 overs at stumps on day having lost the wickets of opener Shan Masood (2) and Azhar Ali (2). Both the wickets fell when the score was 6. Vernon Philander took both the wickets ( 2/1). Philander bowled 4 overs of which 3 were maiden. Opener Imam-ul-Haq was batting on 10 and Mohammad Abbas yet to score at stumps on day 1. Pakistan trail by 245 runs. South Africa lead the three-match test series 2-0.
