Patna : South Africa (SA) scored a modest 227/9 in 50 overs against India in the 8th match of ICC World Cup at the Rose Bowl, Southampton, UK, wrist spinner Yuzvendra Chahal taking 4/51 in 10 overs, Jasprit Bumrah 2/35 in 10 overs, and Bhuvaneshwar Kumar 2/44 in 10 overs. Kuldeep Yadav took 1/46 in 10 overs. Chris Morris scored 42 in 34 balls with 1 four and 2 sixes while captain Faf du Plessis scored 38 in 54 balls with 4 fours.

Electing to bat first after winning the toss, South Africa lost their first two wickets with only runs on the board. Both the openers : Hashim Amla and Quinton de Kock, were sent back to pavilion by fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah. South Africa could never recover from the early blows from Bumrah.

Du Plessis and Rassie van der Dussen added 54 runs for the third wicket. Dussen fell to Yuzvendra Chahal for 22 making it 78/3 while Du Plessis fell to Chahal for 38 and it was 80/4. Jean-Paul Duminy fell to Kuldeep Yadav for 3. David Miller fell to Chahal for 31 making it 135/6.

But the lower middle order clicked with Andile Phehlukwayo scoring 34, Chris Morris 42, and Kagiso Rabada an unbeaten 31. Rabada and Morris added 66 runs for the 8th wicket.
