Gurugram (Haryana) : South Africa (SA) beat Sri Lanka (SL) by 9 wickets in the 35th match of CWC at Riverside Ground, Chester-Le-Street, with opener Hashim Amla scoring an unbeaten 80 in 105 balls hitting 5 fours and captain Faf Du Plessis scoring an unbeaten 96 in 103 balls with 10 fours and a six. SA had won the toss and opted to bowl.
Replying to Sr Lanka’s 203 all out in 49.3 overs, South Africa scored 206/1 in 37.2 overs. SA fast bowler Dwaine Pretorious was declared Player of the Match for taking 3/25 in 10 overs. Chris Morris took 3/46 in 9.3 overs while Kagiso Rabada took 2/36 in 10 overs. Andile Phehlukwayo and Jean-Paul Duminy took one wicket each.
Batting first, Sri Lanka made a disastrous start losing their first wicket at 0 with opener Dimuth Karunaratne (captain) getting out to fast bowler Kagiso Rabada. But, Kusal Perera (wk) and Avishka Fernando added 67 runs for the 2nd wicket. Perera fell to Pretorious for 30 making it 67/2. Fernando also fell to Pretorious for 30 making it 72/3. Kusal Mendis too fell to Pretorious for 23 and it was 100/4. Angelo Mathews fell to Chris Morris for 11 making it 115/5.
