Patna : Replying to Australia’s 351 all out, South Africa folded for 162 in 51.4 overs succumbing to a devastating spell of fast bowling by Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc who took 5/34 in 10.4 overs at stumps on day two of the first cricket test at Kingsmead, Durban, South Africa, on March 2, 2018. South Africa barely avoided the follow on.

South Africa’s star batsman A B de Villiers remained unbeaten on 71 in 127 balls including 11 fours. Opener Aiden Markram scored 32 and wicketkeeper Quinton de Cock  made 20. South Africa Captain Faf du Plessis was out for 15.

Australian spinner Nathan Lyon took 3/50. Fast bowlers Josh Hazlewoon and Pat Cummins also took one wicket each. Starc took the wickets of  Faf du Plessis, Theunis de Bruyn, Vernon Philander, Kagiso Rabada, and Morne Morkel, who has announced his retirement from international cricket after this four-match test series.
