Patna : South Africa (SA) were 208/6 in 82 overs at stumps on Day 3 in their first innings in 3rd test against England with Quinton de Kock (wk) unbeaten on 63 in 134 balls hitting 9 fours and all-rounder Vernon Philander batting on 27 in 55 balls with 5 fours. Quinton de Kock and Philander have added 54 runs in 116 balls in their unbroken partnership for the 7th wicket. SA lost 4 wickets on Day 3 and trail by 291 runs.

England spinner Dominic Bess, 22, has taken 5/51 in 31 overs 12 of which were maiden while all-rounder Ben Stokes, who had scored 120 in England first innings, took 1/26 in 5 overs. Such was the dominance of England bowlers that South Africa could score only 11 runs in last 10 overs.

Resuming at their overnight score of 60/2, SA lost their 3rd wicket that of opener Dean Elgar at 63. Elgar fell to Dominic Bess for 35 in 74 balls with 6 fours. Captain Faf du Plessis fell to Dom Bess for 8 making it 71/4. Rassie van der Dussen fell to Dom Bess for 24 and it was 109/5. Fast bowler Anrich Nortje fell to Ben Stokes for 18 in 136 balls with 2 fours and it 154/6. Nortje and De Kock added 45 runs for the 6th wicket. De Kock was dropped thrice during his unbeaten knock.

England had declared their first innings at 499/9 on Day 2 with Ben Stokes and Ollie Pope scoring centuries. Pope, 22,  remained unbeaten on 135, his maiden test century, with 18 fours and a six. SA spinner Keshav Maharaj took 5/180 in 58 overs while fast bowler Kagiso FRa bada took 2/97 in 28 overs.
