Patna : South Africa (SA) were 197/8 after 77 overs at tea on Day 3 in their first innings of the 2nd test against India at Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune, on October 12, 2019, with Vernon Philander unbeaten on 23 in 111 balls hitting 3 fours and Keshav Maharaj unbeaten on 21 in 50 balls with 4 fours. Philander and Maharaj have added 35 runs for the 9th wicket in their unbroken partnership. SA trail by 404 runs.

SA lost two wicket that of Senuran Muthusamy and captain Faf du Plessis in the second session of the play on Day 3. Muthusamy fell to spinner Ravindra Jadeja for 7 making it 139/7 while Du Plessis fell to spinner Ravichandran Ashwin for 64 in 117 balls with 9 fours and a six making it 162/8.

For India, fast Umesh Yadav has taken 3/32 while Mohammad Shami has taken 2/33. Ashwin has taken 2/49 while Jadeja has taken 1/51.

India had declared their 1st innings at 601/5 in the 3rd session of play on Day 2.
