Patna : South Africa (SA), who were all out for a modest 220 in their first innings on Day 1, were 187/4 in 75 overs at stumps on Day 3 in their 2nd innings in 1st test against Pakistan at National Stadium, Karachi, Pakistan, on January 28, 2021, with spinner Keshav Maharaj batting on 2 and captain Quinton de Kock yet to open his account. SA lead by just 29 runs.

SA openers Aiden Markram and Dean Elgar added 48 runs for the first wicket. Elgar fell to spinner Yasir Shah for 29. Markram and Rasssie van der Dussen then added 127 runs for the 2nd wicket. But, both got out in quick succession. Dussen fell to Yasir Shah for 64 in 151 balls with 5 fours and it was 175/2. Faf du Plessis also fell to Shah for 10 making it 185/3. At the same score, Markram fell to spinner Nauman Ali for 85 in 224 balls with 10 fours and it was 185/4.

For Pakistan, Yasir Shah has so far taken 3/53 in 24 overs while Nauman Ali has taken 1/27 in 20 overs. Yasir Shah had taken 3 wickets in SA’s first innings too.

Earlier, resuming at their overnight score of 308/8, Pakistan were all out for 378 in 119.2 overs with their last two wickets adding 83 runs.  Yasir Sjhah remained unbeaten on 38 in 37 balls with 4 fours and 1 six.  Hasan Ali fell to fast bowler Kagiso Rabada form21 in 33 balls with 2 fours while Nauman Ali fell to Keshav Maharaj for 24 in 49 balls hitting 3 fours. Pakistan took a first innings lead of 158 runs.

For SA, Kagiso Rabada and spinner Keshav Maharaj took 3 wickets each while fast bowler Anrich Nortje and Lungi Ngidi took 2 wickets each.
