Patna : World No 44 and 7th seed Sourabh Verma, 26, India, defeated World No 41 Loh Kean Yew, 22, Singapore, in the final on August 11, 2019, evening, to lift the men’s single title at IDBI Federal Life Insurance Hyderabad Open, a BWF Tour Super 100 badminton tournament at Gachibowli, Hyderabad.

National champion Sourabh beat Yew in a three-game thriller 21-13, 14-21, 21-16 in 52 minutes in the final at G M C Balayogi Indoor Stadium, Gachibowli, Hyderabad, to lift men’s singles besides getting 5,500 points. Sourabh won 56 rallies in the match to 50 by Yew.He won 5 consecutive points in the match to 6 by Yew. Yew got 4,680 points. It was the first meeting between Sourabh and Yew. Sourabh’s younger brother and World No 13 Sameer Verma had won the Hyderabad Open title in 2018.

In the women’s double, Ashwini Ponnappa & Reddy N Sikki, India, lost in straight games to Baek Ha Na & Jung Kyung Eun, South Korea, in the final.  Baek Ha Na & Jung Kyung Eun beat Ponnappa & Sikki 21-17, 21-17 in 43 minutes in the final to clinch the women’s doubles title.
