Motihari :  Congress President Sonia Gandhi virtually unveiled a life size statue of Mahatma Gandhi installed in Prajapati Ashram at Motihari, headquarters of East Champaran District in North Bihar, on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti on October 2, 2020. The foundation  of this Ashram  was laid by Mahatma Gandhi on May 24, 1918, and now it is named after Congress leader and a close
associate of  Mahatma Gandhi, late Prajapati Mishra, and houses the office of East Champaran unit of  Congress Party.

AICC President Sonia Gandhi, through video conferencing, paid  tributes to Mahatma Gandhi and said that Bapuji was the most
towering personality of the 20th century who continues to inspire us to build a strong and secular. The Champaran Satyagrah Movement of 1917 -18  was a turning point in the freedom movement of our country, she said. It was among the farmers of Champaran
,exploited and emaciated by a tyrannical imperialistic order, that Mahatma Gandhi first experimented his non-violent agitation.The
seeds of Satyagrah, planted by Gandhi Ji on the soil of Champaran trampled for decades by feudal lords forcibly supplanting the
production of food  by Indigo for textile mills abroad,sprouted  and spread across the country into largest peaceful freedom movement in the history of humankind, the AICC President said.
Congress President said  Gandhi Ji fought for poor peasants for  their economic  development but  now the  farmers are agitating against
the black laws of  the government. The agitation  of farmers and congress will be successful  and again farmers emerge victorious .
East Champaran District Congress President Shailendra Kumar Shukla and hundreds of workers attended the virtual meeting.
