Patna : Bihar government on February 24, 2017, suspended SDPO, Sonepur, in Saran district, Ali Ansari on charges of gross negligence during the Makar Sankrati Kite festival organised on January 14, 2017, when 25 people were killed in a boat tragedy while returning from the festival. SDO, Sonepur, Madan Kumar too has been suspended.
The government acted against the officers after getting report of an inquiry conducted by a three-member official committee comprising Principal Seecretary, Disaster Management Department, Prataya Amrit, DIG, Central Range, Patna, Shalin, and Patna DM Dr Sanjay Agarwal.
Incidentally, Principal Secretary, Tourism, Harjot Kaur Bhamhara, and Director, Tourism, Umashankar Prasad, and Saran SP Pankaj Kumar Raj, were also transferred on February 24.
