Patna: Former RJD MP from Siwan Mohd. Shahabuddin, who was recently released from Bhagalpur jail, might find himself in tight spot as a video footage of Bhagalpur after his release has gone viral showing a sharpshooter Mohd. Kaif with him. Mohd. Kaif is shown with the former MP several times in the video footage when he was given a rousing welcome at Bhagalpur after his release from jail.

Kaif is evading arrest in connection with several cases of serious offences including murder, rangdari and loot, lodged with different police stations of Siwan. Police said that an arrest warrant is pending against Mohd Kaif with the Town police station in Siwan in connection with a case of rangdari and assault, said police sources. Kaif’s name had also cropped up in the murder of bureau chief of a Hindi daily in Siwan Rajdeo Ranjan.

Siwan SP Saurabh Kumar on Tuesday said that Kaif is a suspect in Rajdeo murder case. He said that an arrest warrant is also pending against him in another case. Kumar said that Kaif would be interrogated in this connection. If anything is found in his statement, police might question former MP Shahabuddin, he added. Rajdeo’s wife Aasha Ranjan recently reached Delhi and met Union Home minister Rajnath Singh seeking CBI probe into the murder of her husband.

It may be mentioned here that senior journalist and bureau chief of Hindi daily ‘Hindustan’ Rajdeo Ranjan was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Siwan on May 13. Ranjan, 42, was shot at when he was travelling on his motorcycle near Fruit Market on Station Road at around 7:45 pm. The bullets hit Ranjan on the head and neck and he died on way to Siwan sadar Hospital. Ranjan had persistently written against law-breakers of the area. Reports said the assailants were on two bikes.

Five persons have been arrested in this connection. Laddan Mian, known to be close to former RJD MP Mohammad Shahabuddin, had allegedly hired the killers. But the police were yet to find evidence directly linking Shahabuddin with the murder. Rohit Kumar, Vijay Kumar, Rajesh Kumar, Vishu Kumar and Sonu Kumar Gupta, all in their 20s, were later arrested. The 7.65 mm bore countrymade pistol used in the crimewas recovered from Sonu’s house. Police had also seized three motorcycles used by the accused. All the accused are from Siwan.
