Patna : Sri Lanka (SL) defeated defending champion West Indies (WI) by 20 runs in a Group 1 match of ICC T20 World Cup at Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi, UAE, on November 4, 2021, late night, overcoming an unbeaten 54 balls 81 with 8 fours and 4 sixes by Shimron Hetmyer and 34 balls 46 runs with 6 fours and 1 six by Nicholas Pooran.. WI had won the toss and opted to bowl. It was SL’s second win in 5 games.
Chasing a target of 190 runs, WI scored 169/9 in 20 overs as medium fast bowler Binura Fernando, fast medium bowler Chamika Karunaratne, and spinner Wanindu Hasaranga took two wickets each. Fast bowler Dushmantha Chameera and medium fast bowler Dasun Shanaka (captain) took 1 wicket each.
