SL 64/3 on Day 1 in 1st innings in 1st test, Pakistan 191 all out in 1st innings

Patna : Sri Lanka (SL) were 64/3 at stumps on Day 1 in their first innings in the first test against Pakistan at National Stadium, Karachi, Pakistan, with Angelo Mathews unbeaten on 8 and spinner Lasith Embuldeniya batting on 3. Openers Oshada Fernando and Dimuth Karunaratne scored 4 and 25 runs respectively. Oshada Fernando fell to Shaheen Afridi while for Karunaratne fell to fast bowler Mohammad Abbas. Kusal Mendis also fell to Mohammad Abbas for 13. SL trail by 127 runs.

Earlier, electing to bat after winning the toss, Pakistan were all out for 191 in 59.3 overs with Asad Shafiq scoring 63 runs in 126 balls hitting 6 fours and Babar Azam scoring 60 in 96 balls with 8 fours and a six. Pakistan lost their last 5 wickets for only 20 runs. Captain Azhar Ali fell to medium fast bowler Vishwa Fernando for a duck. The pitch was assisting the fast bowlers.

Fast bowler Lahiru Kumara took 4/49 in 18 overs while spinner Lasith Embuldeniya took 4/71 in 20.3 overs. Vishwa Fernando took 2/31 in 13 overs.

Pakistan lost their first two wickets for just 10 runs on board. Opener Shan Masood fell to Vishwa Fernando for 5 making it 10/1. At the same score, Azhar Ali fell to fast Fernando for a duck and it was 10/2. Opener Abdi Ali, who had scored century on his debut in 1st test, and Babar Azam then added 55 runs for the 3rd wicket. Abid Ali fell to fast bowler Lahiru Kumara for 38 in 66 balls with 7 fours and a six making it 65/3.

Babar Azam and Asad Shafiq added 62 runs for the 4th wicket. Azam fell to spinner Lasith Embuldeniya and it was 127/4. Haris Sohail also fell to Embuldeniya for 9 making it 167/5. Mohammad Rizwan (wk) fell to Kumara for 4 and it was 172/6. At the same score, spinner Yasir Shah also fell to Kumara for a duck and it was 172/7.
