Patna : Chasing a target of 197 runs, Sri Lanka (SL) were 60/2 in their second innings at stumps on day 2 of the 2nd test against South Africa (SA) at St George’s Park, Port Elizabeth, South Africa, on February 22, 2019, as 18 wickets fell on the day. Sri Lanka need 137 runs to win the second test and the two-match series with 8 wickets in hand and three days’ play still left. Oshada Fernando was unbeaten on 17 while Kusal Mendis was batting on 10 at stumps on day 2.

Earlier, South Africa were skittled out for a paltry 128 in their 2nd innings with Sri Lanka fast bowler Suranga Lakmal taking 4/39 and spinner Dhananjaya de Silva, a batting all-rounder, taking 3/36. Fast bowler Kasun Rajitha took 2/20 while Vishva Fernando took 1/32.

For South Africa, Captain Faf du Plessis scored an unbeaten 50 in 70 balls with 7 fours while Hashim Amla scored 32 runs with 3 fours. Openers Aiden Markram and Dean Elgar scored 18 and 2 runs respectively. Temba Bavuma scored 6 while wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock, who had scored 86 in the first innings, fell to Lakmal for 1. South Africa were 91/5 after 30.4 overs but were all out for 128 in 44.3 overs.

Resuming at 60/3, Sri Lanka were all out for 154 in their first innings in the first session of the play on day 2 with wicketkeeper Niroshan Dicwella scoring 42 and opener Lahiru Thirimanne scoring 29. Captain and opener Dimuth Karunaratne scored 17 runs.

For South Africa, Kagiso Rabada took 4/38 while Duanne Olivier took 3/61.
