Patna : Sri Lankas (SL) were 20/3 in 12 overs  day 3 in their innings in the first test against New Zealand (NZ) at Basin Reserve, Wellington, New Zealand, on December 17, 2018, with Kusal Mendis batting on 5 and Angelo Mathews on 2. SL trail by 276 runs. Openers Danushka Gunathilaka and Dumuth Karunaratne were out for 3 and 10 respectively while Dhananjaya de Silva was out for duck. For New Zealand, Tim Southee, who had taken 6/68 in Sri Lanka’s first innings, has so far taken 2/7 in the second innings while Trent Boult has taken 1/12. SL were all out for 282 in their first innings.

Earlier, resuming at their overnight score of 311/2, New Zealand were all out for 578 in 157.3 overs in their first innings on December 17 with opener Thomas William Maxwell Latham better known as Tom Latham, 26, son former New Zealand opener Rod Latham, scoring an unbeaten 264 in 489 balls with 21 fours and a six, his 7th test ton, and carried his bat through.

Captain Kane Williamson scored a brilliant 91 and former captain Ross Taylor 50. Henry Nicholls also made 50 while all-rounder Colin de Grandhomme made 49 in 53 balls with 3 fours and 3 sixes. For Sri Lanka, Lahiru Kumara took 4/127, Dilruwan Perera 2/156, and Dhananjaya de Silva 2/54. Suranga Lakmal took one wicket. Tim Southee was run out for 6.
