Patna : Sri Lanka (SL) were 123/3 in 43 overs at stumps on day 2 in their first innings in the 2nd test against Australia at Munaka Oval, Canberra, Australia, on February 2, 2019, with Kusal Perera batting on 11 Dhananjaya de Silva on 1. Sri Lanka trail by 411 runs.

Opener Dimuth Karunaratne retired hurt on 46 with 5 fours while his opening Lahiru Thirimnnae fell to spinner Nathan Lyon for 41 with 5 fours. Captain Dinesh Chandimal fell to fast bowler Mitchell Starc for 15 while Pat Cummins bowled Kusal Mendis for 6.

Earlier, Australia declared their first innings at 534/5 in 132 overs with Kurtis Robert Patterson, 25,  scoring an unbeaten 114 in 192 balls with 14 fours and a six, his maiden test century, and captain Tim Paine scoring an unbeaten 45 in 114 balls with 3 fours. Resuming at their overnight score of 384/4, Australia lost their 5th wicket when opener Joe Burns fell to Kasun Rajitha for 180 making it 404/5. Patterson, who is playing his 2nd test, and Tim Paine were involved in an unbroken partnership of 130 runs. Patterson was dropped on the first ball he faced on February 1, 2019. Australia had won the toss and opted to bat.
