Sitamarhi : Sitamarhi will soon be declared an Open Defecation Free (ODF) district. The district administration has to fix a date soon to declare itself as the first ODF district in Bihar. Altogether 1.10 lakh lavatory related construction works mostly under 29 panchayat will be completed in the district within five days while other 249 Panchayats are already ODF.
Sitamarhi DM Dr Ranjeet Kumar Singh participated along with people’s representatives, officials and NGOs in a lavatory construction programme under Lohia Swachh Bihar Abhiyan at village Punaura Mahadalit Tola (ward-11). A ‘Gadha Khodo Shauchalay Banao’ programme was started here ten days back. The district magistrate has directed the youth to send selfie of newly constructed toilets. “We are nearing a mission,” said DM Dr Singh.
It may be mentioned here that the Belsand Sub-Division in Sitamarhi district was declared ODF at a function attended by CM Nitish Kumar in November 2017.
The present Sitamarhi DM is a 2008 batch IAS officer of Gujarat cadre and is a recipient of Mahatma Gandhi Swachhata Puraskar and Gujarat state Swachhata Puraskar.
