Sitamarhi: In an apparent attempt at honour killing, the parents and relatives of Vinita Kumari, 20, allegedly tried to strangulate her to death on November 18, 2017, near village Singrahia under Bathnaha police station in Sitamarhi district for marrying a youth of another caste belonging to village Indarwa in the district. Vinita hails from village Dospur in Sitamarhi district.

An injured Vinita Kumari was rescued by the villagers from a roadside ditch near village Singrahia under Bathanaha police station on November 18 and was admitted to Sadar Hospital, Sitamarhi, in a precarious condition.

On regaining her senses, Vinita informed police that her parents and relations were not in favour of her inter- caste marriage to a youth boy of village Indarwa. They reached Indarwa and said that they were ready to accept her choice and insisted on her accompanying them to village Dospur. She left for Dospur with them. But,  en route Dospur they beat hrt mercilessly and tried to strangulate her to death.

According to Sub- Inspector (SI), Bathnaha police station, Nirmala Kumari, a case had been registered against the accused and investigation was underway. Police are, however, yet to arrest any accused in this connection. Vinita’s parents are reportedly absconding, sources said.
