Patna : World No 3 in Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings P V Sindhu, 23, India, and World No 6 Nozomi Okuhara, 23, Japan, entered the quarter-finals of Fuzhou China Open 2018, a BWF World Tour Super 750 event, on November 8, 2018.
Sindhu, the third seed, beat World No 26 Busanan Ongbamrungphan, 22, Thailand, in straight games 21-12, 21-15 in 37 minutes in the second round to enter the quarter-finals at Fuzhou, China. Sindhu won 42 rallies while Busanan won 27 in the match. Sindhu won 5 consecutive points to 7 by Busanan. Sindhu now leads Busanan 10-0 head to head.
Okuhara, the 7th seed, beat World No 10 Sung Ji Hyun, 27, South Korea, 21-10, 21-18 in 41 minutes in the second round to enter the quarter-finals. Okuhara, the 2017 World Champion, won 42 rallies while Sung Ji Hyun won 28 in the match. Okuhara won 8 consecutive points while Sung won 4. Their head to head record is 4-4.
World No 12 Sayaka Takahashi, 26, Japan, beat World No 14 Gao Fangjie, 20, China, in a tough three- game contest 21-15, 19-21, 21-18 in 75 minutes to enter the quarter-finals. Takahashi won 61 rallies in the match to 54 by Fangjie
World No 7 HE Bingjiao, China, beat World No 18 Michelle Li, Canada, in a three-game thriller 18-21, 21-13, 21-18 in 66 minutes in the second round to enter the last eight. Bingjiao won 60 rallies in the match to 52 by Li. Both the players won 4 consecutive points each in the match. Bingjiao lead Li 4-0 head to head.
