Patna : World No 3 in Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings P V Sindhu, 22, India, on June 30, 2018, lost to World No 1 Tai Tzu Ying, Chinese Taipei, in three-sets in the semi-finals of Malayasin Open Badminton, one of the five World Tour Super 750 event.

World No 1 Tai Tzu Ying, the defending champion, beat Sindhu 21-15, 19-21, 21-11 at Bukit Jalil, Malaysia. Sindhu had defeated Olympic Champion Carolina Marin, Spain, in the quarter-finals on June 29, 2018.

In the men’s section, World No 7 Kidambi Srikanth,India, also lost in the semi-finals to World No 11 Kento Momota, Japan, 13-21, 13-21.
