Patna : World No 3 in Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings P V Sindhu, 23, India, and World No 9 Saina Nehwal, 28, India, entered the quarter-finals of Daihatsu Indonesia Masters on January 24, 2019, beating their respective second round rival comfortably at Istora Senayan, Jakarta, Indonesia.

Sindhu beat World No 14 Gregoria Mariska Tunjung, 19, Indonesia, 23-21, 21-7 in the second round in 37 minutes. Sindhu won 44 rallies in the match to 28 by Tunjung.  Sindhu won 6 consecutive points in the match while Tunjung won 5. Sindhu now leads Tunjung 5-0 head to head.

Saina beat World No 31 Fitriani Fitriani, 20, Indonesia, 21-17, 21-15 in the second round in 43 minutes. Saina won 42 rallies in the match to 32 by Fitriani. She won 5 consecutive points during the match while Fitriani won 3. Saina now leads Fitriani Fitriani 5-0 head to head. She will play World No 22 Pornpaween Chochuwong, 21, Thailand.

Reigning Olympic and world champion Carolina Marin, 25, Spain, beat World No 46 Ga Eun Kim, 20, South Korea,  in three-games 18-21, 21-12, 21-18 in the second round. She will play Sindhu in the QFs.
