Patna : World Number 4 and Number 1 seed P V Sindhu, 22, India, entered the semi-finals of India Open Badminton tournament, a Badminton World Federation (BWF) World Tour Super 500 event, overcoming the challenge of Number 8 seed Beatriz Corrales, 25, Spain,  in three sets 21-12, 19-21, 21-1, at Siri Fort Spots Complex, New Delhi, on February 2, 2018. But, World Number 11 and Number 5 seed Beiwen Zhang, 27, China,  defeated World Number 10 and Number 4 seed Saina Nehwal, 27, India, in straight sets 21-10, 21-13.

In other matches in the Women’s section, Number 6 seed Cheung Ngan, Hongkong, defeated World Number 5 and Olympics Champion Carolina Marin, Spain, the Number 2 seed, 21-12, 21-19. Number 3 seed Ratchanok Intanon, Thailand, defeated Number 7 seed Yip Pui Yin, Hongkong,  21-11, 21-11.

In the Men’s section, Qiao Bin, China, defeated Parupalli Kashyap, India, 21-16, 21-18, to enter the semi-finals. Number 4 seed Shi Yuqi, China, defeated Number 6 seed Wang Tzu Wei , 22, Taiwan, 21-13, 21-12. Iskandar Zulkarnain, Malaysia, defeated Sameer Verma, India, 21-17, 21-14. World Number 7 and Number 3 seed Chou Tien Chen, 28, Taiwan, defeated Number 8 seed B Sai Praneeth, India, 21-15, 21-13.
