Sitamarhi : An SI of police Dinesh Ram was killed in an encounter with liquor smugglers at village Koaari under Majorganj police station (PS) in Sitamarhi District in North Bihar on February 24, 2021. Chowkidar Lal Babu Paswan sustained bullet injuries and is undergoing treatment at a Nursing Home in Sitamarhi Town. One of the liquor smugglers Ranjan Singh also died in the encounter succumbing to his injuries. Liquor smugglers fired on a police team after it reached Koaari searching for liquor consigment at the village.
The deceased SI was posted at Majorganj police station. He was rushed to Sitamarhi hospital where the doctors pronounced him brought dead. SI Dinesh Ram hailed from East Champaran District in North Bihar. The deceased liquor smuggler Ranjan Singh is a native of village Koaari and police are searching for his accomplices. The area has been cordoned off and vigorous search operations are underway. Sitamarhi SP Anil Kumar is leading the operations.
The incident indicates how well entrenched liquor smugglers are in Bihar that they even dare attack police. At village Koaari under Majorganj police station in Sitamarhi district, there was cross fire between a police team and liquor smugglers. Majorganj police had received an information regarding arrival of a big consignment of liquor at village Koaari. When the police team reached there, the liquor smugglers opened fire on them – first in the air and thereafter on the police team. Police team retaliated in self-defence.
