Kishanganj : SHO, Kishanganj Town Police Station, in Kishanganj District in Bihar, Ashwani Kumar, was lynched by a mob on April 10, 2021, early morning, at village Pantapara under Goalpokhar Police Station in North Dinajpur District in West Bengal, where he had gone with a police team to conduct raids on a hideout of vehicle thieves to arrest motorcycle theft case accused.
Kishanganj SP Kumar Ashish told this reporter that SHO, Kishanganj Town police staion, Ashwani had gone there  with a team of police to
arrest accused in a motorcycle theft case after informing the North Dinajpur  District police  as well as the local police station . But, the  North Dinajpur police did not reach the spot for joint action, the SP added. The Kishanganj police team members  were surrounded by a mob and SHO  Ashwani Kumar was beaten to death, he said.

IG, Purnia, Sureshwar Chaudhary, said the body of  slain SHO Kumar has been received by Bihar police after post-mortem at Islampur  hospital in West Bengal.    The deceased SHO Kumar was resident of  Jankinagar in Purnia District in Eastern Bihar and was at present posted in neighbouring Kishanganj District. A guard of honour was given  to the  deceased at Kishanganj policeline.
