SHO, Dumra PS, 7 other cops suspended after death of 2 persons in police custody

Sitamarhi : Sitamarhi SP D Amarkesh, following directive from IG, Muzaffarpur Zone, Naiyar Husnain Khan, on March 7, 2019, suspended eight police personnel including SHO, Dumra Police station (PS), Chandra Bhushan Singh., after two suspected criminals: Md. Gufran Alam and Md. Taslim, were allegedly beaten to death under Dumra police custody on March 6, 2019, night.

Both Md. Gufran Alam and Md. Taslim were admitted into Sadar Hospital, Sitamarhi, in critical condition, But, they succumbed to their injuries there on March 6 night itself, according to sources. Police remain tightlipped over the incident though  DIG, Turhut Range, Ravindra Kumar, has been camping at Sitamarhi since March 6 night.

According to police, things will be clear only after post-mortem report comes. The post-mortem was performed on March 7 morning at Sadar Hospital, Sitamarhi, under tight security arrangements. Several social organizations are of the opinion that a through investigation is required to know the real cause of death of Md. Gufran Alam and Md. Taslim.
Both the deceased were arrested from village Ramdiha under Chakia block in East Champaran district on March 5 night and were brought over to Dumra police station. They had been arrested in connection with a motorbike loot and murder that took place recently near village Gadha on NH 77. Unidentified criminals had recently killed a bike rider Rakesh Kumar besides snatching his bike. Rakesh Kumar was a resident of village Jiwajor under Aurai block in Muzaffarpur district.
