Patna : World No 2 in Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings Shi Yuqi, 23, China, beat World No 22 B Sai Praneeth, 26, India, in a three-game thriller in the final to win Yonex Swiss Open 2019 men’s singles at St Jakobshalle Basel, Basel, Switzerland, on March 17, 2019. Swiss Open 2019 is a BWF World Tour Super 300 level tournament.

Top seed Yuqi beat Praneeth 19-21, 21-18, 21-12 in the final in 68 minutes to win the Swiss Open title. Although Praneeth went down fighting, he gave a run for his money to Yuqi. Yuqi won 61 rallies in the match to 51 by Praneeth. Yuqi won 5 consecutive points to 7 by Praneeth in the match. Yuqi now leads Praneeth 2-0 head to head.

Praneeth had stunned reigning Olympic champion Chen Long, 30, China, in the semi-finals.
