Patna : Although the position JD(U) president and Bihar CM Nitish Kumar remains unchallenged in the party, former party president and Rajya Sabha member Sharad Yadav is quite unhappy with the turn of events in Bihar leading to Nitish forming government with BJP support in Bihar on July 27 after resigning as the chief minister of Grand Aliance government on July 26, 2017.
Sharad onĀ July 31, 2017, in Delhi termed Nitish’s decision to join hands with the BJP as unfortunate and said that the people’s mandate was not for this. Sharad said that he did not agree with the party’s decision in Bihar at all. Several opposition leaders including Congress veteran Ghulam Nabi Azad had recently met Sharad Yadav at his residence in Delhi. He reportedly told them that he was not at all happy with Nitish’s decision to return to NDA fold. Sharad has of late been criticising the functioning of NDA government at the centre headed by PM Narendra Modi. Sharad was also upset with Nitish’s decision to support NDA presidential candidate Ram Nath Kovind. But, Bijendra Prasad Yadav, a strong supporter of Sharad Yadav, is a very senior member of Nitish government.
The problem with Sharad Yadav is that he does not have a base in Bihar nor does has a strong following among the party workers. Moreover, Sharad was the JD(U) president when the party was an NDA constituent till June 2013. He is the leader of JD(U) parliamentary party. Another Rajya Sabha member of the party Ali Anwar is also unhappy with Nitish’s decision to form government with the NDA support in Bihar.
