Patna : Qualifier Jiri Lehecka, 20, Czech Republic,  stunned World No 12 Denis Shapovalov, 22, Camada, beating him in first round of ATP ABN Amro World Tennis Tournament at Rotterdam, Netherland, on February 8, 2022.

World No 137 Lehecka beat Shapovalov, who had given eventual champion Rafael Nadal, 35, Spain, a run for his money in Australian Open quarter-finals this year, in straight sets 6-4, 6-4 in first round. Lehecka won 3 break points during the match to 1 by the Canadian. The Czech won 3 games in a row during the match to 2 by Shapovalov. The Czech, in all, won 71 points in the match to 62 by the Canadian. Shapovalov though fired 7 Aces in the match to 2 by the Czech. The Canadin, however, committed 5 double faults to 2 by Lehecka.

World No 62 Tallon Griekspoor, 25, Netherlands, upset World No 14 Aslan Karatsev, 28, Russia, in a three-set battle 2-6, 7-6, 7-6 in first round rallying back from one set down. Griekspoor won both the second and third set in tie-break. The Dutch hammered 10 Aces during the match to 4 by the Russian. Karatsev though won 5 break points during the match to 3 by Griekspoor. Ghe Dutch committed 7 double faults in the match to 6 by the Russian. Kafatdsev also won 5 games in a row during the match to 3 by the Dutch. Karatatsev, in all, won 105 points during the match to 97 points by Griekspoor.
