Patna : World No 34 Denis Shapovalov, 20, Canada, World No 63 Pablo Carreno Busta, 28, Spain, World No 71 Alexander Bublik, 22, Kazakhstan, and World No 111 Lyoyd Harris, 22, South Africa, entered the semi-finals of Chengdu Open, an ATP 250 Points event played on hard courts, at Chengdu, China, on September 27, 2019.

Shapovalov, the 3rd seed, beat World No 98 Egor Gerasimov, 26, Belarus, in three-sets 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 in 1 hr 37 minutes in the quarter-finals at Sichuan International Tennis Center, Chengdu, China. Shapovalov fired 9 Aces in the match to 1 by Gerasimov. Both the players committed 4 double faults each. The Canadian won 2 break points to 1 by Gerasimov. Both the players won 3 games each in a row in the match.

Busta beat World No 33 Cristian Garin, 23, Chile, 7-5, 6-2 in the quarter-finals. Busta fired 9 Aces in the match to 2 by Garin. The Spaniard won 4 break points in the match to 1 by Garin. Busta also won 4 games in a row in the match. The Spaniard won 42 service points to 34 by Garin. Busta will face Shapovalov in the SFs on September 28, 2019.

Harris edged past World No 62 Joao Sousa, 30, Portugal, 6-7, 6-3, 6-4 in the QFs. Harris hammered 27 Aces in the match to 6 by Sousa. But, he also committed 4 double faults. Harris won 2 break points besides winning 3 games in a row in the match. The South African won 73 service points to 63 by Sousa.

Bublik upset World No 26 Grigor Dimitrov, 28, Bulgaria, the 4th seed, 5-7, 7-6, 7-6 in 2 hr 31 minutes in the QFs. Bublik hammered 35 Aces in the match to 9 by Dimitrov. He, however, also committed 15 double faults to 4 by the Bulgarian. Dimitrov won 3 break points to 2 by Bublik. Bublik won 5 games in a row to 3 by the Bulgarian. Bublik will face Harris in the SFs on September 28.
